How to Check If AI Can Find Your Business

AI now answers nearly half of all Google searches. If your business website is not set up correctly, AI skips you and shows your competitor. This 5-minute guide shows you how to check your AI visibility and fix the issues yourself.

Why This Matters

Search is not what it used to be. Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other AI systems now answer questions directly instead of showing a list of links. When someone searches "best dentist in Dallas" or "plumber near me," AI decides which businesses to mention based on specific technical signals in your website.

If your site is missing schema markup, has weak title tags, or lacks security headers, AI does not know how to categorize your business. It skips you. Your competitor who has those signals gets the mention instead.

AI Overviews reduce clicks to websites by up to 58%. That means even if you rank on page 1, AI might answer the question without sending the user to your site. The businesses that get cited by AI are the ones with the right technical signals.

Step-by-Step: Check Your AI Visibility

1

Scan your website

Go to botmo.io and enter your website URL. The scan checks 15 SEO signals and 9 security signals that AI systems use to evaluate your site. Takes 30 seconds. No account needed.

2

Read your score

You get a score from 0 to 100 and a letter grade. Above 80 means AI can find your business. Between 60 and 79 means you are partially visible. Below 60 means AI is likely skipping your site entirely.

3

Review the SEO checklist

The 15-point checklist shows pass or fail for each signal. Title tag, meta description, H1 heading, schema markup, mobile viewport, page speed, analytics, sitemap, and more. Focus on the items marked with a red X.

4

Check the security rating

The 9-point security scan checks for vulnerabilities like missing HTTPS, no Content Security Policy, exposed email addresses, and clickjack risk. Security issues make AI trust your site less and can directly hurt your visibility.

5

Fix the issues

Each issue has a description and a recommended fix. For $27, you get the actual HTML code for every fixable issue. Copy the code and paste it into your website. If you use WordPress, paste it into your theme header. Shopify or Squarespace users paste it into the custom code section.

If you do not want to touch code, the $297 done-for-you option handles everything in 48 hours.

6

Re-scan and verify

After making fixes, go back to botmo.io and scan again. Your score should improve immediately. Most businesses go from the 40-60 range to 80+ after fixing the common issues.

Most Common Issues We See

After scanning 2,400 business websites, here are the 5 most common problems:

1. Missing schema markup. Schema is structured data that tells AI exactly what your business is, where you are located, and what services you offer. Without it, AI has to guess. Most local business sites do not have it.

2. Weak or missing title tag. Your title tag is the first thing AI reads. If it says "Home" or "Welcome to Our Website," AI does not know what you do.

3. No meta description. AI uses your meta description to understand what your page is about. If it is missing, AI writes its own summary and it is usually wrong.

4. Missing security headers. Content Security Policy, X-Frame-Options, and HSTS headers tell AI your site is trustworthy. Most local business sites have none of them.

5. Slow page speed. AI systems deprioritize slow sites. If your page takes more than 3 seconds to load, you lose ranking in both traditional search and AI results.

What Not to Do

Do not pay an agency $2,000 per month for this. The fixes are 4 to 5 code changes. An agency will charge you monthly to "monitor" and "optimize" what you can fix in an afternoon.

Do not ignore AI search. It is not going away. 45% of Google searches already show AI Overviews. That number is growing. Businesses that optimize for AI now will have a significant advantage over those that wait.

Do not stuff keywords. Keyword stuffing actually reduces AI visibility by 10% according to research from Princeton. Write naturally. AI rewards clarity over keyword density.
